ACME Group and Japan’s IHI Corporation have secured approximately USD 3 billion in price support from the Japanese government for their green hydrogen joint venture in Gopalpur, Odisha.
Funded through Japan’s Contract for Difference (CfD) subsidy mechanism, the initiative bridges the price gap between green and conventional grey hydrogen for Japanese off-takers. The project boasts an annual production capacity of 405,000 tonnes of green ammonia. Beginning September 2030, Japan will provide a 25-year subsidy for 228,000 tonnes per annum (tpa), with the remaining 177,000 tpa secured under its Long-Term Decarbonized Power Source Auction.
This landmark 25-year agreement significantly boosts revenue visibility and financing prospects, aligning India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission with Japan’s aggressive decarbonization goals.
